Dear Editor, Why did the school change the class schedules? I was told it was for the benefit of the students - BULL! The schedule was supposed to free the student from classes on either 2 or 3 days a week (if students wished); but because of overlapping class periods, this is practically impossible. Most of us ended up having classese every day of the week anyway. Also, many students signed up for classes that overlap, and they must either leave one class early or be late Jo the other. This interrupts the instructor and stu dents. Another problem is classes get out at different times, and this causes confusion in the halls and disturbs the classes that are still in session. cause less confusion and both Couldn’t the schedule be set up students and faculty would be on either a 2/3-day basis or 5-day happier. basis, and not both? Eric Clapton’s history has spanned two decades, two countries, stints with many groups including . Derek and the Dominoes, Cream, and , as well as nine solo . All this influence has given Clapton a wide range of musical styles, and all of these styles have finally come together on Clapton's newest , Another Ticket. This album is Eric’s first studio release with his new back-up band. Clapton is no longer backed by female vocals as was the case with his earlier albums; instead he is joined by and Alvin Lee on the vocals. Also joining Eric in the studio are on drums, on keyboards, and Dave Markee on Bass. The album opens with a blues flavored love song entitled “ Something Special." The song is dominated by some fine bass playing which adds more feeling to the song, and it features some interesting lyrics as well. In the song Clapton sings, almost proudly. “ She ain’t too pretty/she ain’t too tall/ in fact she ain’t too much of anything at all."(which is definitely a change from some of Clapton’s earlier lyrics!) “ Black Rose," the album’s next tune, opens with some find acoustical guitar work, and it has some fine backing vocals. The song’s country flavor is very reminiscent of some of Eric’s tunes on his LP. A wonderful rendition of the blues tune “Blow Wind Blow” follows. This tune shows Eric at his best. Clapton is a pure master when it comes to arranging old blues songs, and this one is no exception. This song also lets Eric show off a little of his guitar genius. “ Another Ticket,” the album’s title track, is by far the best tune on the disc. Clapton combines a good string arrangement with fine piano and guitar work, and throws in some excellent lyrics to come up with his most beautiful song since “ .” The song’s lyrics are gentle and seem to touch everybody. Clapton sings, “ every time you think you’ve paid the price/ Seems you’ve always got to pay it twice/ And every time you think you’re near the end/ You turn around and find another ticket/ Oh, my love, time is running out." Every aspect of this song makes this one of Eric’s best ever. As soon as "Another Ticket ends, the album wastes no time in jumping to the first single from the album I Can’t Stand It. This tune features all the elements that made his version of “Cocaine” a classic; good guitar, good vocals, and a strong beat. A HJRMAN-FOSTER Company Production An excellent piano back-up adds further strength to the song.
