Advice: Mother’s Day!!! By: Charli & Makaley Wish the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day. Mother's day is the day you can celebrate how amazing your mom, guardian, or relative is. Even though Mother’s Day is over you can still do nice things. You can: Make a card, give her flowers, make a coupon book filled with things like free hug. What you should put in your card: Think of all the things your mom has done for you, put it in your card and say that you appreciate all the things that she has done for you. Weather:

By: Makaley & Jazmin This week is mother’s day yay!! This week for Mother’s Day will be sunny but don’t worry you can do fun activities in your house. You can sit with your family and see a movie with chips or popcorn. You can go outside and play in the sun with your mom or your family and play in the sprinkler or jump in the pool. Just enjoy your special day with your mom.

Junior Coaches:

By: Makaley and Charli

If you don’t know what the junior coaches are they are 5th graders that help out the other kids at recesses. The junior coaches recently got new shirts. The shirts are with “Hall Junior Coaches” on the front and their names on the back. The junior coaches don’t go on Wednesday but on the other days they are outside. The junior coaches help K-5 students. Korean Culture By: Keila and Vellinie The is pretty hard to learn but compared to Chinese and Japanese, Korean is easier to learn. Korean may be hard but it isn’t impossible. Saying and singing in Korean is very similar. When you say “Hello” in Korean there are many different ways of saying it. The proper way of saying “Hello” is “Annyeonghaseyo” but if you talk to a friend you’d say “Annyeong.” Singing in Korean is pretty similar, you can sing a word but it might sound different.

In Korea you can be a Korean idol. When they have a tryout you have to become a thing called a trainee. A trainee is a person looking for a particular job. Well in Korea you are waiting for a group to join with. Looking for a group isn’t easy, you have to find an opening where you’d have to be chosen to be in the group. When you’re an idol you get to be at a fanmeeting where you meet fans. Also you’ll have to perform on stage. One of the most popular boy groups is BTS. BTS is famous in the U.S. and Korea. BTS is a Korean boy group that makes different genres of songs. The members are Rap Monster, Jin, J-Hope, Suga, V, Jimin, and Jungkook. Jin speaks Mandarin. V speaks Japanese. All of these great influences seem to be rubbing off on the other members! J-Hope and V are both said to be learning Mandarin, and last week KCON released a short hello message from the boys of BTS to their fans where three of them speak in English very clearly.

The flag of , also known as the Taegukgi, has three parts: a white rectangular background, a and Taeguk, symbolizing balance, in its center, and four black trigrams selected from the original eight, one toward each corner. The Korean flag means Eastern Asia. The flag is a Yin-Yang symbol. The Yin-Yang symbol is originally black and white but for Korea it is red and blue instead of black and white.

A couple of Vellinie’s favorite foods that are popular in Korea are Hotteok, Tteok-bokki, Gimbap, and Kimchi. Hotteok is a variety filled Korean pancake. Hotteok can be filled with different types of flavors like brown sugar/cinnamon (the original filling), marshmallows, and a hazelnut spread with fruit. Tteok-bokki or stir-fried rice cakes is a popular Korean food made from small-sized garae-tteok called tteokmyeon or commonly tteok-bokki-tteok. Fish cakes, boiled eggs, and scallions are some of the most commonly added ingredients. Gimbap is a Korean dish made from white rice. Gimbap is similar to sushi but it is made with steamed white rice. Sushi is made from white rice too but it has vinegar in it. Kimchi is a dish made from fermented cabbage and Korean radish. The cabbage is very different this cabbage is called “Napa Cabbage.” This dish is also a little spicy. It has Korean red pepper powder.

The traditional clothing in Korea is called a . What makes it unique is it has vibrant colors, and simple lines with no pockets. It is known as semi-formal or formal clothing and is worn for traditional festivals and celebrations. A popular celebration is Seollal, which is Korean New Year. Women have 5 different parts to their clothing. The men only have 4 parts. The 2 main parts are the shirt and the skirt called the Jeogori and Chima. The Jeogori is tucked into the Chima.
