Curling Alberta’s Excel Program Coaching Staff Rob has been the Head Coach of Curling Canada’s National Training Centre in Edmonton since 2007. He has been a member of the Canadian coaching staff at many international events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics, 4 World Championships, and 2 World University Games. Rob also played on the World Curling Tour for 25 years. Since retiring as a competitor he has been a team coach in most of the major events in elite men’s curling, including all the Grand Slams. Rob lives in Edmonton with his wife Rej and their dog Boots. Rob Krepps Excel Program Director Renee had a long and successful career as an elite curler. She skipped in the 2013 Olympic Trials, 3 Canada Cups, and 4 Scotties. Renee has also coached in numerous international events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics, a World Championship, and a World Juniors all for Denmark, along with 3 World Championships and the 2018 Winter Olympics for Canada. She taught High School math for 10 years and now owns and operates a Kumon Learning Centre. Renee lives in Grande Prairie with her husband Les and their son Cortland. Renee Sonnenberg Regional Excel Coach (West) Garry has been the Assistant Coach at Curling Canada’s National Training Centre in Edmonton since 2011. He has been the Team Leader for Canada at 3 World Junior Championships, winning gold in 2013 and 2014. Garry has also coached at 3 World University Games, winning gold in 2017. He has been a team coach at most of the top events in elite women’s curling, and has Canada Cup and Canadian Open titles to his credit. Garry is semi-retired and lives in St Albert with his wife Bev. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Garry Coderre Regional Excel Coach (North) Atina was a gold medalist at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games as the alternate for the legendary Sandra Schmirler team. She won the 1991 Canadian Junior Championship, and went on to have a successful career on the World Curling Tour playing for the likes of Michelle Englot, Heather Nedohin, and our own Renee Sonnenberg. Atina has been a teacher for 12 years and is currently a Learning Coach with the Foothills School Division.
