INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 All I Need—a recurring line we spot in Gabbi Garcia’s recent social media posts. From her Instagram captions to teaser-filled tweets, Gabbi is certainly on to something. The 18-year-old Kapuso star has a new exciting project up her sleeve. This isn’t another television show or big screen outing. Gabbi delves deep into her artistry with the launch of a much-awaited debut single.

“All I Need is a song about self-empowerment. It’s realizing your worth as a person,” Gabbi shares with Inside Showbiz Weekly. The actress, best known for her portrayal of Sang’gre Alena in the remake, cannot hide her excitement about the release of All I Need which she describes as a ‘chill R&B track’.

“I just really want to share my art with everyone. My team and I worked on all the ideas for the album. It’s so fulfilling to see everything come into reality,” she says.

While being part of a major network was an advantage, Gabbi chose to pave her own path by going indie. “I really wanted to explore my artistry. I’m a music business management student from Meridian International School (MINT College) while my sister is a Conservatory of Music graduate. We really wanted to do something like this. I wanted everything to be original kasi iba talaga if you have full control over your music.”

THE PASSION PROJECT

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE Gabbi reveals that a fellow Kapuso star inspired her to work on this project. “Kuya Christian Bautista co-produced the single. Both of us wrote the song. He really played a big part kasi he was the one who pushed me to do my own music,” she shares.

Working on the single took some time. “It’s really a long process. The whole plan started last year pa. It just materialized the past months lang.” While her music career is set to kick off with an R&B single, Gabbi says she wishes to do acoustic songs so that she could play the guitar.

Another good friend involved in her passion project is Kapamilya actor who has a production house called Limitless PH. While Khalil is also into music, Gabbi declares that he was more involved in the visuals. “He’s really a good photographer diba? Why would I not get him?” Khalil also directed her music video which was shot in Hong Kong.

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE “Pupunta pa ba ako sa iba? ‘Yung kaibigan ko has a production house so bakit pa ako lalayo, right? And I know that Khalil and I are almost always on the same page. We have the same vision. It won’t be hard to tell him what I want to see in the video,” she says.

Film director Petersen Vargas, whom Gabbi worked with in the upcoming Making MEGA in France fashion film, is the creative director behind the artworks and teaser photos of All I Need. Gabbi proudly shares, “He basically put his ideas onto the layouts. He did the album art for the singles we released on Spotify.”

BECOMING GABBI

How did Gabbi’s love affair with music begin? She lets us in, “Music is actually my first love. Before entering showbiz, I was already doing gigs. I thought of making my own music the moment I entered showbiz. But hindi ito yung naging direction agad for me ‘cause I had to introduce myself in the industry through teleseryes. Now that people have recognized me, it’s about time I do my own thing. If I don’t start soon, kailan pa diba?”

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE The stunning star even reveals that she has rock roots. She was the lead vocalist and occasional guitarist in the alternative rock band Untitled. They would usually play music by The Beatles and Gwen Stefani. Gabbi recalls, “We were all high school students back then. It was a good training ground before showbiz.” She has also been doing covers with her sister from way back.

Immersing herself into the world of songwriting wasn’t easy. “I’m good at writing essays but when it comes to songwriting, nahihirapan ako. I started to doubt my talents. When I entered MINT, I saw things differently. My classmates were writing their own songs. That really inspired me. I realized you can overcome creative challenges as long as you’re passionate about what you do,” Gabbi reassuringly states.

Now that Gabbi is comfortable about expressing herself through lyrics, she plans to write more compositions that come from the heart. “It’s become an impulse for me. I would usually sit down and let inspiration in. I write down my thoughts and find meaning in things,” she notes.

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 DREAM COME TRUE

With Gabbi’s music career about to kick off (her single will be launched on October 23), fans are wondering if the acting projects will take a backseat. “I believe I can manage working on both things at the same time. I’m not really expecting myself to just choose one,” Gabbi explains.

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE Aside from the impending album launch, her MEGAstyle cover will hit the shelves soon. Gabbi was happy to share her thoughts on the whole experience. “It wasn’t an ordinary magazine cover shoot. We went to Paris and had the most amazing time. I will always be grateful for that opportunity,” she says.

ALL OUT

Gabbi informs us of her home network’s plan for a teleserye comeback. She has no details yet apart from the fact that it is a sure project. In the meantime, people can watch her on the television variety show Sunday PinaSaya. There is also the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017 entry Meant to Beh. Come December, she will be busy promoting the comedy movie headlined by and Dawn Zulueta. “It’s such an honor to work with them. This is also my first time to work on an MMFF entry. Everyone was so fun to work with,” she shares. “And what’s nice about this is we get to share ideas in the movie. We get to do ad libs.”

INSIDE SHOWBIZ WEEKLY OCTOBER 2017 INSIDE SHOWBIZ EXCLUSIVE With the many good things going on for Gabbi, she herself is surprised by how she is able to handle all her tasks. “Actually, I don’t know. My biggest challenge right now is being a recording artist and juggling it with my life as an actress and student. Of course, I should make time for my social life din.”

She goes on, “Bukod sa time management, I always make sure to put my heart and soul into the craft. I hope people will get to see that,” she closes.
