THE SECRETARY-GENERAL

9 August 2004

Dear Dr. Rogge,

As you know, I had been looking forward to attending the 2004 Summer in this month, and I very much appreciated your willingness to receive me. However, in the end, it proved impossible for me to travel to Greece due to other demands on my calendar.

Mr. Adolf Ogi, my Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace, whom you know well, will be attending the Games. I would be extremely grateful if the International Olympic Committee could extend to him every courtesy as my representative.

I am writing separately to the Athens Organizing Committee with this request.

With my best wishes for a marvelous event in Athens,

Yours sincerely,

Kofi A. Annan
