(unless otherwise specified) The Westin Guadalajara is a luxurious 4-star hotel conveniently located near the center of Guadalajara. 5:45 PM - Group gathers at the Bar of the Hotel “El Candil” Located on ground level, for a Welcome Cocktail and brief welcome by Johannah Hutchison. 7:00 PM - Group dinner at Alcalde. #36 in the Top 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America. Chef Francisco ‘Paco’ Ruano’s simple, ‘frank’ Mexican cooking in a stylish, welcoming setting in Guadalajara makes diners want to return again and again. Featuring a collective exhibition of the gallery’s artists titled “Inebriate of air am I”. CURRO proudly announces its change of location after a more than ten-year period at the award-winning building “Torre CUBE”. A space that allowed us to forge our history through more than 40 exhibitions with more than 50 artists from all over the world. A new space will open its doors in January 31, 2020 during the art week in Guadalajara, prior to Zona MACO fair in Mexico City. The inaugural exhibition will feature works by its represented artists, including new recruits. We will spend the day visiting art galleries and artist’s studios exploring the vibrant contemporary art scene of Guadalajara, that comes to life during this weekend in celebration of the Zona Maco art fair in a weekend called Pre-Maco. Some of the locations that we will visit are: Taller Los Guayabos Taller Los Guayabos is a space for the production, exhibition, and exploration of contemporary art, with five workshops permanently housed on the premises. The exhibition program draws on the results of the ongoing workshops, as well as works produced during the residency program and projects presented by local and international curators. The residency program is aimed at reflecting the interdisciplinary character of contemporary artistic practice. A residency at Taller Los Guayabos provides participants with a space to work and access to specialized workshops in which to explore different supports. Resident artists are invited to share what they are producing with the inhabitants and cultural agents of the city through exhibitions, lectures, talks, and other forms of interaction. The four artists working permanently at Taller los Guayabos are Octavio Abúndez, Alejandro Almanza Pereda, Gabriel Rico, and Luis Alfonso Villalobos. Estudio Hospital Artist-run space. Galería Paramo Founded in 2012, Páramo promotes emerging and established artists across disciplines in order to generate work and ideas to further a global dialogue. While presenting an ongoing program of exhibitions, events, performances, screenings, and talks, the gallery also offers an artist residency to engage in the city of Guadalajara and create experimental and innovative work on site. They will be presenting a very special exhibition of Miguel Calderon in close collaboration with Daniel Guzman. And we will attend a TALK with the curator and artists Saturday Feb 1, 2020 - Continued GUADALAJARA 12:00 PM - Catered lunch at PAOS PAOS PAOS GDL is a cultural research and production center focused on the different contemporary artistic manifestations, their creation processes and artistic education. This year presenting an exhibition by Kenn Taylor in collaboration with The Mistake Room, and another one by Nina Beier. NO PLACE No place is an experimental platform for the exhibition of contemporary art. A project promoted jointly by four galleries, namely Nueveochenta (Colombia), Arróniz (Mexico), Michael Sturm (Germany) and NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ (Spain), it aims to generate new experiences for the public via an alternative production model. For this particular edition of NO PLACE we will see works by: Cristian Camacho, Wolfram Ullrich, José Olano, Pipo Hernández Rivero, Fernando Carbajal and Ivan Estrada. TIRO AL BLANCO GALLERY One of the youngest up and coming galleries of the city. In the afternoon, we will attend the fabulous and traditional party of Ceramica Suro. Every year, Noe Suro throws the house out the window for the art crowd people to celebrate the zona maco week. Everybody that comes to Guadalajara for PreMaco joins at this afternoon-long party. A family-owned ceramics studio, Ceramica Suro opened in the 1950s to manufacture wares for luxury hotels. When José Noé Suro, the son of the original owner, took over the factory, he invited some of his artist friends such as Jorge Pardo among others, to collaborate on special projects and began producing dinnerware for some of Mexico’s top restaurants. Enjoy the many fabulous food options at the Ceramica Suro Party. Consider it a late lunch or an early dinner 5:30 PM - Departure from Ceramica Suro. There will be TWO STOPS: 1st stop Option to attend the KODAK FACTORY Exhibition titled INSTANTÁNEA, curated by Geovana Ibarra, organized by several local contemporary artists. Featuring works by more than 30 local artists. 2nd stop HOTEL (arrive at hotel by 6pm). Those that stayed at the KODAK Exhibition will be picked up and returned to the hotel for arrival back at hotel at 7:30 pm Return to hotel. Dinner on your own. Sunday Feb 2, 2020 GUADALAJARA Breakfast is at your leisure, and it is included in your room rate, it is served daily from 6:30 to 11:30 am at Grill & Vine located on Level 2. 8:45 AM - Meet in lobby for prompt departure. City tour of Guadalajara including main landmarks. En route to the Historic Center we will enjoy a panoramic city tour guided by Ricardo Izaguirre. With 5 million residents, Guadalajara has its share of interesting people. There’s enough beauty, fashion, and style to make you want to spend the entire time shopping and there will be plenty of opportunities. Head downtown to the city’s most famous landmarks the Palacio de Gobierno with the most important murals by Jose Clemente Orozco; and the Guadalajara Cathedral, with neo-Gothic towers and domes that date back to 1561. Visit MUSA (Museo de las Artes Universidad de Guadalajara) to view more of Jose Clemente’s most remarkable mural work as well as work by the other great Muralists. Stroll through Plaza Mariachi to reach Hospicio Cabañas, and visit the temporary exhibition: JALISCO: DIÁLOGOS CRUZADOS Dr. Atl - Cerámica de Tonalá, Mathias Goeritz - Emanuel Tovar, Rosa Castillo - Francisco Ugarte, Ídolos precolombinos - Daniel Guzmán 1:00 PM - Refuel at Casa Luna in the colonial heart of Tlaquepaque. We will give you a brief tour of trendy Tlaquepaque, a pedestrian-only zone of 300+ shops, bohemian boutiques, historical homes, and restaurants that double as galleries. From clothing and jewelry to ceramics and works by Sergio Bustamante, this artisan village has enough colorful finds to satisfy your souvenir cravings. FREE TIME FOR SHOPPING ON YOUR OWN! 4:30 PM- Return to hotel for a break before evening plans. 5:45 PM- Meet in lobby for prompt departure. Studio Visit and Dinner party at home of artist Eduardo Sarabia. We will start the visit at his studio to learn about his work and then we will have dinner catered here and will be joined by other people from the local art community. Eduardo Sarabia’s work has been inspired by the independent economies and folk history of northern Mexico. He frequently works with the materials favored by local craftspeople, using ceramic tiles, hand-woven textiles, and glass to create sculptures and installations that address the complex exchanges—social, cultural, and material—that occur when this region and its history encounters outsiders.
