We will spend the day visiting art galleries and artist’s studios exploring the vibrant contemporary art scene of Guadalajara, that comes to life during this weekend in celebration of the Zona Maco art fair in a weekend called Pre-Maco. Some of the locations that we will visit are:

Taller Los Guayabos Taller Los Guayabos is a space for the production, exhibition, and exploration of contemporary art, with five workshops permanently housed on the premises. The exhibition program draws on the results of the ongoing workshops, as well as works produced during the residency program and projects presented by local and international curators. The residency program is aimed at reflecting the interdisciplinary character of contemporary artistic practice. A residency at Taller Los Guayabos provides participants with a space to work and access to specialized workshops in which to explore different supports. Resident artists are invited to share what they are producing with the inhabitants and cultural agents of the city through exhibitions, lectures, talks, and other forms of interaction. The four artists working permanently at Taller los Guayabos are Octavio Abúndez, Alejandro Almanza Pereda, Gabriel Rico, and Luis Alfonso Villalobos.

Galería Paramo Founded in 2012, Páramo promotes emerging and established artists across disciplines in order to generate work and ideas to further a global dialogue. While presenting an ongoing program of exhibitions, events, performances, screenings, and talks, the gallery also offers an artist residency to engage in the city of Guadalajara and create experimental and innovative work on site. They will be presenting a very special exhibition of Miguel Calderon in close collaboration with Daniel Guzman. 12:00 PM - Catered lunch at PAOS PAOS PAOS GDL is a cultural research and production center focused on the different contemporary artistic manifestations, their creation processes and artistic education. This year presenting an exhibition by Kenn Taylor in collaboration with The Mistake Room, and another one by Nina Beier. NO PLACE No place is an experimental platform for the exhibition of contemporary art. A project promoted jointly by four galleries, namely Nueveochenta (Colombia), Arróniz (Mexico), Michael Sturm () and NF/NIEVES FERNÁNDEZ (Spain), it aims to generate new experiences for the public via an alternative production model. For this particular edition of NO PLACE we will see works by: Cristian Camacho, Wolfram Ullrich, José Olano, Pipo Hernández Rivero, Fernando Carbajal and Ivan Estrada. TIRO AL BLANCO GALLERY One of the youngest up and coming galleries of the city. In the afternoon, we will attend the fabulous and traditional party of Ceramica Suro. Every year, Noe Suro throws the house out the window for the art crowd people to celebrate the zona maco week. Everybody that comes to Guadalajara for PreMaco joins at this afternoon-long party. A family-owned ceramics studio, Ceramica Suro opened in the 1950s to manufacture wares for luxury hotels. When José Noé Suro, the son of the original owner, took over the factory, he invited some of his artist friends such as Jorge Pardo among others, to collaborate on special projects and began producing dinnerware for some of Mexico’s top restaurants. Visit MUSA (Museo de las Artes Universidad de Guadalajara) to view more of Jose Clemente’s most remarkable mural work as well as work by the other great Muralists. Studio Visit and Dinner party at home of artist Eduardo Sarabia. We will start the visit at his studio to learn about his work and then we will have dinner catered here and will be joined by other people from the local art community. Eduardo Sarabia’s work has been inspired by the independent economies and folk history of northern Mexico. He frequently works with the materials favored by local craftspeople, using ceramic tiles, hand-woven textiles, and glass to create sculptures and installations that address the complex exchanges—social, cultural, and material—that occur when this region and its history encounters outsiders. Time for Tequila—the town, not to be confused with the beverage (which you will undoubtedly try). Visit CASA HERRADURA distillery and learn about the history and how the most famous spirit of Mexico is made. You’ll know you’ve arrived by the blue agave fields that stretch for miles over rugged terrain. All of the world’s tequila is produced in this region, making it popular with travelers visiting the town's 18th-century church, the National Museum of Tequila.

Lunch catered at the Gardens of Casa Herradura. After lunch we will have the chance to visit the Town’s square and church and give you some free time to explore the shops for those that want to purchase some tequila or other souvenirs.

Cocktail at Proyectos Monclova Gallery. Proyectos Monclova was established in 2005 in Mexico City as an experimental platform for emerging artists. Artist studio visit: Gabriel de la Mora. Following a meticulous process, Gabriel de la Mora researches, collects, classifies, catalogues, and manipulates remarkably diverse materials. These materials are familiar, taken from quotidien objects – his ongoing series The weight of thought for example, repurposes leather and rubber shoe soles. de la Mora’s materials of choice are those often considered waste or residue: collected artifacts and antiques, obsolete mechanical and utilitarian objects, parts, corporeal matter, architectural scrap. Through these, De la Mora explores finitude and permanence, the passing of time, its bracketing, and the transformation of matter and energy alike. Gabriel de la Mora was born in Mexico City in 1968, where he still lives and works. He earned an MFA from Pratt Institute, NY and a BFA in Architecture from Universidad Anáhuac del Norte, Mexico City.

Guided tour of the Anthropology Museum. Situated in the heart of the Bosque de Chapultepec, the Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology) is Mexico City's largest museum and impossible to tackle in just one day, especially given that it covers a space of almost 20 acres, featuring 23 separate exhibition rooms and several gardens. But we will enjoy a wonderful tour of it highlights.

Arrive to . Tour the Museum, joined by its Director Ramiro Martinez. Housed in an 18th-century Baroque hospital, the Museo Amparo in Puebla displays a major collection of pre- Columbian and colonial Mexican art, as well as temporary exhibition of contemporary art. In 2013 it underwent a dramatic modernization with a building designed by TEN Arquitectos.

Walking tour of Historic Center of Puebla, visiting Biblioteca Palafoxiana, Cathedral, among others.

The historic centre of Puebla was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. The Historic Monuments Zone of Puebla is considered the origin of Puebla. The Historic Monuments Zone retains a lot of colonial buildings. Several of the oldest buildings were badly damaged in 1999 after the earthquake and later were subsequently repaired. Unfortunately, after the 2017 earthquake, some of them again suffered damage.

Visit the recently opened Museo Internacional del Barroco, building designed by Toyo Ito and inaugurated in 2014. Check out this interesting review of the Independent UK.

7:30 PM - Dinner at Casa Reyna before departing back to Mexico City. Before we embark on our trip back to the City we will enjoy one last meal together in the elegant and authentic restaurant. Don’t miss their shop, they handle the BEST Talavera that Mexico Produces, Talavera de la Reyna.
