Administrative/biographical history Gelligaer is an ancient parish situated on the North-East corner of the diocese of Llandaff and includes the towns of Gelligaer, Bargoed and Pontlottyn. The parish is in the rural dean of Caerphilly and has an ancient church dedicated to St. Cattwg, whose registers date back to the beginning of the 18th century.
