Congratulations on Your New Nano!

Congratulations on your new Nano!

The Atmos Nano is Ethnobotanica’s newest addition to our line of portable smoking gear. Unlike the Atmos RX or Junior, which are primarily for raw flowers or concentrates, the Atmos Nano is designed for extremely discreet and comfortable inhalation by way of special pre-filled cartridges.

The cartridges themselves are essentially small canisters with a metal heating coil in a small stainless steel tube. When one draws from the mouth piece, air is drawn in from the bottom of the cartridge, near the battery, and suction is used to draw a small amount cannabis concentrate onto the heating coil. These cartridges are technically reusable, however, we do not recommend or support attempting to refill these cartridges due to the fairly complicated nature of doing so. Learning to do it right will take more dedication and equipment than one might assume and that the average member would want to attempt. In fact, we are still adjusting our filling process after months of testing to assure the best possible experience now, and in the future.

The oils used in the cartridges start with the same high quality concentrates we have on our shelves. The difference is the process we go through to make these work, while maintaining the high potency our members like you expect. First, we take your favorite concentrates and winterize the concentrates to filter out waxes, lipid oils, fats, and many other unwanted stuff from your concentrates normally called “tar”, which can block lung passages and cause coughing. Then, we decarboxylize THCA and CBDA into their psychoactive forms, THC and CBD. Finally we slightly dilute the cleaned and activated concentrate with a small amount of Certified Organic Grain Alcohol so we can get it into the cartridge and can slowly flow from the tank onto the heating element. All lab tests are AFTER dilution, not before. We wouldn’t treat you like that.

Most other pre-filled cartridges are glycerin based. While these often provide a smoother vapor, they are significantly less potent, at 60mg/ml maximum possible saturation for cannabinoids in glycerin, where ours have been testing at 70% Cannabinoids, or 700mg/ml. Some others we have seen have been attempts by people to physically mix hash oils with glycerin that results in a globby mixture which separates and will give you one hit of concentrate only, then next glycerin only, and goes on like that. Lucky for you, we’ve done our homework. J

Using the pen

The pen only has two significant parts: the battery and the cartridge.

When you first get your pen, it will be locked. Press the power button (located on the battery) three times quickly. The blue light on the end of the batter will flash, signaling your pen is ready to use. You can also press the button three times again to lock the pen, so your pen does not activate in your pocket (causing the oil to accidentally vaporize… in addition to causing leakage in your pocket and its contents. The battery comes about half charged for storage. Like all Lithium Ion batteries, the ones used in these pens do not have “battery memory”. Therefore you can just keep it on your charger whenever it’s not in use, so it’s always ready to go.

The cartridge is ready to use as soon as you screw it on. After you have unlocked it, all you need to do is push the power button for 1 second and inhale slowly for 2 to 3 seconds. When first using a new cartridge, it may take a few draws to get the concentrate flowing to the heating element. We have found that you can get a solid, smooth hit with ½ to 1 second of battery time. Any longer than a second will likely vaporize more oil than your lungs can uptake in a single breath and/or cause unnecessary coughing. If you use the pen right, there should be little or no desire to cough, nor should you see much smoke on exhale, since any smoke is unused terpenes and Cannabinoids. In the case of these pens, the reaction to cough is your lungs being oversaturated with Cannabinoids and your body’s natural reaction to clear your airways.

We have also noticed that if you hold the power button and try to draw very large hits, what can happen is more concentrate is drawn into the heating chamber than you will use in that inhalation. This oil is now loose in the heating chamber, and can easily leak into and out of the mouthpiece or battery. When you press the power button, the heating coil lights immediately and stays hot for a second or so. During this time, if you draw very hard and fast, you can inadvertently pull more oil into the chamber than will be vaporized, leaving a puddle in the chamber which can leak out of the cartridge.

Troubleshooting:

While these pens are an extremely efficient and discreet way to use your medical Cannabis, there are some common issues we have discovered with the pens. Here, we will try to lay out these issues and the best solutions we have found thus far to solve these common problems.

Problem / Solution
End light not turning blue / Battery not charged, make sure battery is screwed in all the way when charging.
OR…
Battery is broken. Check if coil is working, may just be lit.
Light turning blue AND
coil not working / Battery may not be fully charged.
OR…
Battery may not be screwed on all the way.
OR…
Coil may be clogged: This happens sometimes when the pen gets cold or too much oil is drawn into the chamber from sucking too hard. The oil left on the coil from a previous use will cool and harden and may take a few tries to warm it back up.
Cartridge leaking from battery side / Using power button and drawing more oil into the chamber than necessary…
And
We have found about 5% of the pens will leak at some point through the bottom of the cartridge. There are several things that contribute to this, including heat, battery being loose, and a slight difference between batteries. Please call your driver for a free replacement. We would greatly appreciate any feedback you can give us regarding the conditions prior to the leak, so we can further identify problems to solve going forward.
Cartridge leaking from mouthpiece / Cartridge can be leaking internally if warm or hot. If it causes problem or continues, call for a replacement.
OR…
Mouthpiece is cracked, if mostly full call for a replacement if it causes a problem.
OR…
Mouthpiece is loose, tighten mouth piece and check seal to ensure correct seating.

Tips for use:

-  Do not leave the battery or pen sitting in a hot place, like the sun or in the car on a sunny day. This will both shorten the life of the battery and lead to possible leaking.

-  Check to ensure the mouthpiece and tank are tight before use and storage.

-  When not in use, store the pen with the mouthpiece facing down, preferably in the fridge so it stays cool.

-  When you first get the pen, start by using short bursts of power progressing to longer power.
