Anybody can have one! But only 6% do! This is a great communication tool that is very easy to use. Bonus! - Use provides documentation for all four quadrants in Danielson.

Components of the classroom Web Page Template

  1. Calendar – List assignments or other events going on in your class. Teach multiple classes, no problem you are able to add classes and then match assignments and events to the classes.
  2. Documents – Add documents and small videos to help your parents know what is going on in the classroom.
  3. Web links – Links to help complete assignments. Or, links that help parents when working with their children to complete assignments.
  4. Message – This is as close as you will get to create a blog. BUT! It sure can be used creatively. At the end of the day (period) have the students summarize the learning that day. Post their comments in the message. Solidifies the learning targets!
  5. Photo Album – Share pictures of what is happening in your classroom. Please remember to follow district protocols. (Opt out forms! Contact Director of Community & Public Relations)
  6. About Me – Tell about your experience, education, and goals; even add a picture! Or, just tell the name of your favorite movie! Up to you.
  7. Does have a link for parents to send you a message via email

Create Classes –

  1. To organize your documents – Use a naming protocol for your documents – Because you can’t create sub-folders within the individual classes. Put the unit or subject in front of the “file” name of the documents that belong together, this way they will stay together.
  2. Calendar – Can show all, or if you will assign each item to a class then viewers can sort by class to see exactly what is happening when.

WHY!

1.  Put the responsibility of learning on the shoulders of the students and provide information and support for the parents.

2.  Moving towards a Student Centered Learning environment or more commonly known now as a Flipped Classroom? You will need a source for communication. Classroom webpage coupled with Gaggle, these two resources will be highly effective in organizing and informing your students.

  1. Gaggle – Student organization tool
  2. email, discussion board and a blog tool for communication
  3. Assignments can be posted and collect submissions
  4. Class documents, and resources (web links) – things student might need to be successful with the work happening in the classroom. Save them here and then can also attach to assignments.
  5. Calendar keeps track of the assignments for the students
  6. Posting videos – GaggleTube is a filtered YouTube access.
  7. Post your own videos (size might be an issue)
  8. Search YouTube for great videos, then go into GaggleTube and attach them either as class resources or to assignments.
  9. Production! Students now have a place for all of their documents that can be accessed from anywhere with Internet access! No more the dog ate my homework – my flash drive is missing!
  10. Google docs! Everything automatically saves
  11. Work from anywhere with Internet access
  12. Collaboration! Students can be working in groups on the same thing at the same time.
  13. NO more missing assignment requests! Posted to Gaggle, students just need to check their calendar and keep up with their assignments.
  14. Classroom Web Page – Parent information tool
  15. Contact information – email. And then use the Greetings “box” to share daily happenings in the classroom.
  16. Add assignments to the calendar - provide parents with the information they need to help their students keep on schedule
  17. Documents and links to help the parents understand the concepts being taught in your classroom.
  18. Calendar – parents are able to help their students stay organized
  19. Videos – you can post them as a resource, need to be fairly small, 2 to 5 minutes should fit.

Yes, you would keep up both places; one is for the parents the other is for students. These two very different focuses work really well together to put the responsibility of learning on the shoulders of the students with the role of support on the parents. Just like in your own life, you have to use multiple tools to be successful; here at school you will need to combine tools to help your students be successful.
