Fahe, a company based in Berea, Kentucky is accepting applications for the position of Community Lending Services Underwriter. This posting is for immediate full-time employment in our Home Office in Berea, Kentucky.

Summary

This position has primary responsibility for underwriting and closing loans. This position will be a critical member of the Lending Team. The primary responsibilities of this position are to independently underwrite, structure, and close real estate and business loans. This position will be expected to work collaboratively with the Lending Team to meet loan production goals, satisfy lending policies and Loan Committee requirements, and to minimize legal and financial risks to the company.

Fahe is currently capitalized at $79 million with approximately 70 loans outstanding. Due to increased investment opportunities realized, Fahe has $65 million in new capital to deploy for rental real estate and community facilities permanent finance. As our loan volume increases and our organization is advancing to the next level, we are increasing the capacity of our staff as well.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as underwriter and closing agent for Fahe Community Lending Services
  • Evaluating risks associated with affordable housing real estate, community facilities, and loans to support nonprofit businesses
  • Creatively developing solutions to complex financing, underwriting and closing issues
  • Process loans from initial application to loan closing
  • Conduct due diligence on borrowers and projects
  • Analyze, evaluate and recommend action on loan requests according to risk rating and under established credit policy guidelines to minimize legal and financial risk to Fahe
  • Prepare loan approval packages for Loan Committees
  • On an as-needed basis, provide technical assistance to borrowers in structuring their financing
  • Coordinate with counsel to prepare loan documents
  • Work with borrower, legal counsel, Title Company, and finance to confirm thatconditions of funding are met and to close the loan
  • Assemble loan files and ensure accuracy and collection of post-closing items
  • Complete timely investor reporting to CDFI Fund and Fahe investors

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • At least five years demonstrated relevant real estate lending experience, specially complex community development projects
  • Knowledge and experience with real estate finance required
  • Knowledge and experience with affordable housing finance and nonprofit development organizations preferred
  • Superior financial analysis and credit evaluation skills
  • Capacity to prioritize multiple tasks to meet customer deadlines while ensuring credit integrity
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational skills with strict attention to detail
