AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP:

The scholarship has an annual value of $2,500.00 toward Fire Academy Candidates attending TrainingDivision .

ELIGIBILITY:

To honor his memory and his contribution to the fire service the family of Chief Joe Watson has set up this scholarship for people who reside in Johnson, Parker or Tarrant Counties in Texas. Applicants must provide proof that they reside in one of these counties to be considered for this scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants for the scholarship shall complete and submit the following items to TrainingDivision:

  1. Completed scholarship application.
  2. Brief statement (about 200 words) prepared by applicant explaining reason they are requesting the scholarship.
  3. Three (3) letters of recommendation from individuals that are not related to the applicant.
  4. An official copy of school transcript and grade report from current school attended or more recently attended. The official transcript should have all grades earned and academic course work completed to date.
  5. Applicant must be a citizen of the USA and at least 18 years of age.
  6. Applicant must grant permission to TRAININGDIVISION so an background check can be done.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

  1. Scholarship will be awarded annually.
  2. Scholarship award will be made on or before June of each year. The scholarship award year shall be defined as June 1 to June 1.
  3. Scholarship recipients will be notified by letter from TrainingDivision.
  4. All applications and supporting material must be mailed to TrainingDivision and post marked no later than April 15th of the scholarship award year. All applications and supporting material will become property of TrainingDivision.
  5. Scholarship applications and supporting material received post marked after April 15thwill not be considered for scholarship in that year.
  6. Scholarship awards are not transferable to another individual without permission of TrainingDivision.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA:

A special selection committee will review the applications and supporting material. This committee will then select candidates to come to a final interview. The applicant statement indicating their reason for requesting the scholarship and their career goals will weigh heavily in the process.
