Cell Cycle Movie

Due: B = Mon. 3/23 and A = Tues. 3/24

The Assignment:

For this assignment students will use found images and/or video to create a short movie that explains the “cell cycle” Students will use their Cell Cycle Notes, Reading Packets, and additional research to create a storyboard (drawings of shots that will be in their movie and the narration that goes with it) of their movie. Students will then locate images and/or video and use it to create their short movie. Students will then upload the movie to their google drive or bring the movie in on flash drive or DVD to present to the class.

The Requirements:

1.  The movie must be between 1 and 2 minutes long.

2.  The movie must explain all parts of the “Cell Cycle” including: Interphase and Mitosis (Mitosis includes: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase) don’t forget cytokinesis

3.  The movie must have a title scene with the title of the movie, the student’s name and period.

4.  The movie must be at least 5 shots long including the Title.

5.  The movie must be turned in on time.

Naming the movie file: Period, Full Name, CC Movie (Example: 4JoeSchmoCCMovie)

Explanation of Rubric:

Following Directions: Students complete the storyboard portion first, movie is 1 – 2 minutes, has a title, has narration for each shot (written and spoken), movie must have at least 5 images, and must be in on time.

Covers All of the Cell Cycle: The movie must explain all parts of the “Cell Cycle” (see requirement 2)

Quality of Information: The images and narration are in depth and accurate. Chosen images are understandable and help to explain the cell cycle.

Movie Quality: The images, audio, and print are clear and easy to understand. Shots are on for an appropriate amount of time.

What programs to use: Students may use any editing software they are familiar with. Microsoft Movie Maker comes with most computers that have Windows operating (this is the program I will demo in class, but most are similar). iMovie comes free with Mac computers. Photostory is another free program that can be used to create your movie. PowerPoint presentations will not be accepted. Students without access to a computer or editing program can use the computers in my room or the library during lunch or after school.
