Butler University Staff Assembly Minutes

May, 2004

1.  Mary Paugh, Vice-Chairperson, called the meeting to order. New staff members were introduced. Michael Kaltenmark introduced the new live Butler mascot.

2.  Judy Cebula, Director of the Center for Faith and Vocation, and her assistant, Scott Minor, shared about the many activities of the Center over the past year and upcoming events and happenings. The Center is one of 88 programs funded by a Lilly Grant to study and program for the theological exploration of vocation. Activities include international study trips, workshops and programs, scholarships, faculty workshops to assist with the integration of the subject into the classroom, internships and the Butler Seminar. 3.  Bruce Arick gave a presentation on the budget and gave a financial update. He also gave reports on progress with the purchase of the Newman Center, the Fitness/Student Housing facility, and the sale of WTBU.

4.  Barb Lee, Employment Affairs committee, reported that they are involved in revising the staff handbook with Organizational Development. They are still working on supervisor training possibilities as well as the Top Dawg program. Staff were reminded that the deadline for nominations for Top Dawg is June 4.

5.  Jane Clarke, Activities and Socials committee, reported that the softball season is underway and that the Garden Club held a successful “Plant Swap” coordinated by Deb Brown.

6.  Mary gave the Chairperson’s remarks in Bob Marcus’ absence. This included the fact that Advancement reported that we have had the best fund raising year in Butler’s history and that we reached all of the match goals for the Lilly Challenge.

7.  Patti Colip introduced the new Executive Board members and encouraged staff to watch the Digest for the date and time of the next Staff Forum in Starbucks.
