Ayrshire Care at Home and Housing Support Services

Sense Scotland supports a number of adults with communication support needs and /or a physical/learning disabilityacross Ayrshire. Our service is growing and as well as developing our new Touch Base service based in Ardrossanwe have recently helped a young man move into his own home and support him to live life to the full while managing his complex healthcare needs. We currently support individuals in their own home in Saltcoats, Irvine and Stevenson.

A range of shifts are available and you will be allocated to a dedicated team for individuals to ensure continuity and confidence in your approach. Some of the people we support have their own vehicle and are looking for staff that can drive. A clean driving licence is therefore desirable. Sometimes you will be working on a 1: 1 basis but you will have regular access to peer support and work alongside supervisors and managers. Experience is desirable but not essential as we provide extensive training, local induction and regular supervision and support.

All of the people who use our services require practical help for day to day living including help to communicate their needs, support with mobility and in some cases support with eating and drinking and personal care. Some individuals do not communicate through speech but through their behaviour and for some this can present challenges. You will receive extensive training in understanding challenging behaviour and how best to manage this. Everyone comes with unique personalities and can make an active contribution to their community in their own way with our support. Each individual is unique and has their own personal support plan to ensure they reach their potential and have the kind of support that is important to them. We work closely with families and good communication with families is an important part of the role.

We provide 24 hour support which includes early and back shifts as well as sleepovers and/or nightshift.

No two days are the same in our services but on any day you could be supporting individuals to go to college, take a trip on a ferry to arran, go swimming, dancing, horse riding, skiing, meet up with their friends, participate in arts and music sessions. Have lunch at the local community centre or support individuals to attend health appointments. This is rewarding work for the right person. We will need you to be enthusiastic, team players, willing to learn, caring and sensitive to the needs of others, have a good sense of humour and be able to work on their own initiative and have a sensible approach to managing risk and keeping people safe.
