Overview of the job: This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious design technology specialist who can subscribe to and is enthused by the Studio School vision.

We are seeking to appoint a passionate classroom practitioner as our school continues to expand. Our design technology subject specialism is helping to make the Isle of Wight Studio School a beacon for creative and accelerated learning.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Lead Learning Coach to plan, develop and deliver effective and high quality learning experiences for all students. Our learners follow GCSE courses.

Learning Coach (Teacher)- Main accountabilities

Role Summary

To develop, plan and deliver effective and high quality learning experiences for all students, supporting the delivery of the unique Studio School curriculum. Be accountable for the learning and achievement of your students.

Accountable to the Headteacher for the following key areas:

Learning and Teaching

·  Deliver the national curriculum through innovative, exciting themed enterprise projects, using your subject specific knowledge and skills to plan, prepare and deliver activities which facilitate active learning experiences.

·  Ensure that there is a focus on the CREATE skills framework and that these are mapped across and reinforced throughout lessons.

·  Ensure that personalisation of learning lies at the heart of delivery by fostering a mentoring approach that gives students’ autonomy in tailoring the curriculum to their individual needs.

·  Provide high quality subject sessions which:

Ensure that students acquire new knowledge and skills, develop ideas and increase their understanding;

Enable students to develop their learning habits of concentration, working productively both independently and collaboratively, and producing work which is well presented.

·  Ensure students make progress through:

Well planned and well paced lessons, regular assessment for learning sessions that are well matched to students’ needs with an appropriate level of stretch and challenge and well organised and skilful use of resources, including time, new and emerging technologies and personal coaches;

Homework which reinforces and extends the learning undertaken in class;

Consistent and effective behaviour management and effective feedback

·  Ensure students develop their own learning through self-evaluation and reflective partnership with peers and teaching staff

·  Ensure Personal Coaches are clear about the learning objectives and outcomes in lessons, understand the sequence of teaching and learning in the subject and communicate this to the students

Leadership and Management

·  Take responsibility to ensure you are up to date in terms of your knowledge of the subject(s) you teach, the related teaching methodologies and the external examination requirements for your subject(s).

·  Attend briefings, register students and assist with supervision before, during and after the working day.

·  Attend meetings arranged for staff, with parents and, when appropriate, with employers and other outside agencies/providers.

·  Supervise and, so far as practicable, teach students whose teacher is not available.

·  Assess, record and report on the personal development and academic attainment and achievement of students.

·  Ensure that work is always set for classes when absence is foreseeable.

Care, Welfare, Guidance and Support

·  Maintain an ongoing overview of the personal and academic development of each student.

·  Negotiate the individual learning plan for each student.

·  Work with others to identify when intervention is needed e.g. when underachievement is identified or additional challenge is required.

·  Through liaison with the SENCO and personal coach, ensure appropriate provision is in place to support students with challenging behaviour.

·  Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of individual student progress and provide timely information about curriculum attainment against targets.

·  Contribute to the assessment and reporting of student development in line with school policies and achievement across all skills and competences.

Salary / We will match salary to skills and experience. Less experienced applicants will be offered a lower salary with an opportunity to increase once performance is established
Pay date / Monthly in arrears on last working day
Probationary period / One year
Hours of work / Such hours as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of the duties of the role
Annual Leave / 35 days
Bank Holidays / 8 public holidays
Pension / You will be automatically enrolled onto a public sector pension. Contribution rates vary between schemes
