Literature Unit 5 “Perfect Test”

Have you ever thought that there were errors or questions that didn’t make sense, or there were directions that were very unclear? The American Literature Unit 5 assignment is going to give YOU the chance to create the PERFECT TEST for this unit. PLEASE remember this: the operative word for this Unit 5 test is “PERFECT”. The Unit 5 Test you create will be 3 things:

  • Your Perfect Unit 5 TEST will be the Benchmark (a grade) & ATA (no credit) for YOU for Unit 5,
  • Your Perfect Unit 5 Test , if it earns 90% or greater, allows you to exempt Unit 5 Test, and
  • Your Perfect Unit 5 Test will be someone else’s Unit 5 Test.

When turning in these 3 things, DO NOT STAPLE TOGETHER, there will be paperclips - use them please

Reading Assignment for Unit 5 AND the only pages where questions for the Perfect Unit Test may come from are:

(1.) One Pager given to everyone, (2.) 970 -977 (text’s unit intro.), (3.) 996 -997 (Jarrell / poem) - READ BY

(4.) 1044- The Beats, (5.) 1051 – 54 Plath/ Sexton – poetry, (6.) 1063-67 Brooks/ Hayden – poetry - READ BY

(7.) 1095 -00 Morrison – essay, (8.) 1102 – 12 Kennedy/ King, (9.) 1116 – 7 drama READ BY

(10.) 1250 – 4 Real Life Readings – READ BY -

Everyone is responsible for reading all of the above; we will also discuss many individual pieces in class

**************************************************************************************

Requirements to follow to create the Perfect Unit 5 Test:

1.) ALL questions/answers must come ONLY from the specific pages (above) listed as the Reading Assignment for Unit 5

2.) The Perfect Test must be typed

3.) Perfect Test must be submitted on time for it to allow student(s) to exempt Unit 5 Test

What specific items are to be submitted for the Perfect Test?

1.) Typed copy of the Unit 5 Test (DO NOT put your name on the test. I will put a numerical code on it) - remember, this

is The test – it must have: directions, be numbered correctly, have sections that make sense, words spelled

correctly, ADD UP TO EXACTLY 50 POINTS, and not include any information repeated.

2.) A numerical listing of each question, the correct answer(give the LETTER), and the page in the text where the

answer is given - put this info on one page of paper (this list can be handwritten or typed);student names go on this

3.) a completed Scantron Answer Key – put your name(s) and class period on scantron – teacher will provide scantron

What type of questions may be asked on the Perfect Test? (NO question(s) asked may be “give away/ silly questions,” such as: “what is the number of words in the poem on page___?” or “How many times does the letter “s” appear in the poem?”; or contain options such as: Donald Duck, or Mickey Mouse. Each question must ask a question that would be appropriate for an HONORS/ AP literature class. All options are to seem reasonable – only one correct. Be CAREFUL! If you are in doubt, ASK ME!

1.) Multiple Choice Questions - Value: 2 pts each – must offer 4 possible choices per question 2.) Matching Questions – Value: 1 pt eachfor the individual questions in a matching section – each matching question

section must contain at least five (5) individual questions, you can have more

than 5 questions in a matching section

What is the Perfect ATA Lit Unit 5 Test’s value? 50 Points (The test must equal exactly 50 points – more or less will result in a loss of 40% of the points possible for making the test AND no ability to exempt the Unit Test. (Yes, you do math in an English class!)

Questions/ Information may not be asked more than once. This is the section requiring you to be very careful. You may not have a matching section that asks a question and then turn around and ask for the same information in a

multiple choice question, AND a question cannot give away an answer to another question. If this happens, the repeat information questions are deleted, thus the total pts possible for the test do not add up to a total of 50 points and the grade for writing the Perfect ATA Unit 5 Test is – 40% - and you cannot exempt the Unit Test.

Sharing of Questions will result in points being deducted from ALL tests involved equal to DOUBLE the value of the question AND loss of privilege to exempt taking Lit. Unit Test 5 --- for all people creating the test. Think carefully about who you work with because if they are not honest, your grade could be hurt!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Grading for “Writing the Perfect Unit 5 Test:

O – 5 points possible 1.) Typed test has clear and correct directions, helpful spacing, grammatically correct writing,

neatness and white areas to divide sections, correct numbering throughout the test

O or20 points possible 2.) Test adds up to exactly 50 points - this area is “all” or “nothing”

O – 15 points possible 3.) Quality of Questions asked (no repeats, no “silly” questions, focus is on important info)

O – 10 points possible 4.) Test covers many of the section read in the text, it does NOT just cover a few

The Perfect Unit Test you create will be given to other students. IF a person taking your test challenges an answer and can prove by using the Literature text that your Perfect Test has a wrong answer, YOU LOSE FROM YOUR “Writing the Perfect Test” GRADE THE VALUE OF THE QUESTIONTIMES 3 (for example, if you have a wrong multiple choiceanswer, that’s 1 point X 3 = 3 points, so you lose these points from the grade earned for writing the PERFECT test).

You have a choice of working individually on this assignment, or as a group of2 or 3 people. All members of a group MUST be in the same class period. Work will need to be done on this assignment outside of class time! All receive same grade.(All students names go on Scantron & the one page list of questions, answers and page where info found ; DO Not put names on the TEST itself ; teacher will code the TEST when it is turned in. DO NOT Staple these items together, use paper clip.)
