Magic Grow Capsules

Magic Grow Capsules

As we study science, it is important to continue to practice using the scientific method process. Learning how to question, formulate a hypothesis, plan out an experiment, analyze data, and create conclusions for your experiment is a skill that is helpful in anything you do.

For this activity, you will be given 2 Magic Grow Capsules that contain sponge figures in them. The figures will grow when placed in water. Your job is to come up with a question to test about what might affect their growth.

You will write a unique question to study, and the question MUST be approved by me! Once you have chosen your question, you need to follow the steps of the scientific method to complete the experiment and answer your question.

*Before getting the necessary supplies to complete the experiment you MUST show me the procedure.

Step One: What is the problem/question?

Step Two: Gather information (What do you already know about Magic Capsules, water temp, saltwater, ect?)

Step Three: Form Hypothesis (can be an if/then statement and you should have a reason why you have come up with this hypothesis)

Step Four: Perform Experiment (This is where you write your step by step procedure. It needs to be very detailed to ensure that your experiment can be repeatable. MUST be approved before starting)

Step Five: Analyze data (organize information; chart, line graph, bar graph, circle graph)

Step Six: Draw Conclusions (summarize results, was your hypothesis correct? Why? What could you change about the experiment? How accurate is your data?
