Questions / tasks

Part A: Mapping and research

The World in general Total 78 marks

Remember

The questions relate to world physical features, latitude, longitude and time zones. To complete the following exercises you can refer to ‘The Explore the World’ map within the online reading notes.

The meridians of longitude: The International Date Line leaves the meridian in a number of places. This is because we use the Date Line to determine the beginning and ending of each day. Countries need to be entirely on one or the other side of the Date Line.

The seven oceans of the world: The Equator divides those bodies of water, where ‘north’ and ‘south’ is specified.

The major seas: When the major seas are located in your atlas, take note of important tourist destination countries with coastlines bordering these seas.

1 A map of the world has been provided for you. However, you can download a blank map of the world from the ‘Tourism destinations’ online learning resource to make several copies of the map for adding your notes and/or ‘practicing’. It is suggested you enlarge the map to A3 size for convenience. If you are unable to enlarge these maps contact your OTEN teachers for assistance. Note: Antarctica is not always included on maps.
