Show Regulations
.Placement of exhibits may begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 11. All vehicles must be unloaded promptly and moved to the parking lot. Space numbers will be displayed on all exhibit spaces. Please check in with show representative before beginning setup. All plants and exhibits must be in place before 6 p.m. Friday. Exhibits may not be removed until Sunday, April 13, after 5:00 p.m. Plants that are sold from the exhibits may not be removed before exhibits are dismantled on Sunday. No plants other than orchids may be sold during the show.
.Classification and registration of exhibits and plants will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, and must be completed by 5:30 p.m. All entries for competition must be submitted to the Registration Committee. All entries must list the name of the plant, its parentage, and its owner's name. If the plant has received an AOS award, this should also be listed. Proper classification of plants entered for ribbon judging is the responsibility of the exhibitor, although show personnel will render such assistance as time and their ability permit.
.Unless stated to the Show Chair in writing, all persons entering plants or flowers in the show agree to accept any American Orchid Society awards granted and pay the associated awards fees to AOS.
.Some background foliage will be available. Foliage plants, moss, etc. may be used to supplement exhibits, but no dried or artificial foliage or flowers will be permitted. No plants other than foliage or orchids will be permitted. All orchid plants should be neatly and visibly labeled with the plant’s full identifying information, INCLUDING the highest AOS award(s) received where applicable. Use of abbreviation for genus name is acceptable.
.Plants used in exhibits may be entered for individual judging, but must be entered in the name of the OWNER (who may not necessarily be the exhibitor). Commercial exhibitors are requested to limit registrations for ribbon judging. All unregistered plants in the show are eligible for trophies except for BestFirst Bloom Seedling andBest Scented Orchid. All exhibitors are responsible for complying with applicable state and national regulations regarding the source of plants exhibited, particularly CITES and those against wild collecting.
.All reasonable effort will be made to provide the exhibit space requested, but should the space available be less than expected, the Show Committee reserves the right to limit the space allocated to any exhibitor.
.There will be accredited AOS judges presiding. The decisions of the judges will be final. The AOS judging system will be used in all events.
.The judges have the right to award or withhold any scheduled award and to reclassify or subdivide classes when necessary. Judges may reclassify improperly classified flowers at their discretion, or may disqualify improperly classified flowers where reclassification is impossible, impractical, or would result in an inequity. All decisions of the judges are final.
.Judging will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m., Saturday.
.Any person who complies with the rules and regulations of the show may exhibit, space permitting. The Registration and Show Committees reserve the right to reject any tardy or unsuitable entries, although accommodation will be made if possible. Registry of commercial entries for ribbon judging may be limited by decision of the show chair prior to the beginning of registration.
.Objections to any rules must be in writing, signed, and presented to the Show Committee Chair before 5 p.m., Friday.
.Please read the description for each category very carefully!
.All cut flowers and plants in bloom that are properly registered with the show committee will be considered for AOS awards unless the exhibitor has previously requested otherwise.
.Ribbon awards will be given in all classes when merited and trophies will be awarded as described in the Special Show Awards section of this program. Trophies may be given to any properly labeled plants in displays, whether or not they were entered for ribbon judging.
.Seedling classes DO NOT include first bloom meristems.
.Exhibitors in class 1 are eligible for sales space. Participants will be assessed a per table fee, as communicated by the show chair in advance. Reservations for space should be placed with the show chair as quickly as possible.
.The Show Committee will be responsible for enforcing the Rules and Regulations herein, and for establishing other rules for the conduct of the show.
.Displays should be titled and the show theme addressed. The Show Committee will furnish registration number tags and exhibitor identification signs. All plants in competition MUST be clearly and correctly labeled. The Tallahassee Orchid Society will provide cloth skirts for the number of sales tables requested. Exhibitors' own cloth skirts may be used upon advance notification of, and approval by, the show chair. Tabletop covering can be used as exhibitors wish. Exhibitors SHOULD provide extra lighting for exhibit or sales tables if at all possible; the auditorium has scattered outlets, but extension cords may be necessary. Lights must be aimed so as to avoid annoying passersby. No water accessories may be used.
.Neither the Tallahassee Orchid Society nor its membership will be responsible for damage or theft of flowers or plants, but the Society will take all reasonable precautions to ensure their safety.
.Floral arrangements entered for hobbyist OR commercial category must have orchid flowers as the predominant element. The arrangement may not exceed the dimensions of 30 inches high, 22 inches deep, and 24 inches wide (due to the size of the niches provided for display), unless special arrangements are made with the Show Committee Chair before 8 a.m., Friday.
.Any exhibitor who entered an educational exhibit (class 5) in the prior year must enter a different exhibit if choosing to do educational again. Show chair reserves the right to limit the number of educational exhibits shown each year on a first reserved, first approved basis.
.All arrangements must be in place by 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and must remain on display until Sunday, at 5:00 p.m. All arrangements not picked up by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday will become the property of T.O.S. and donated to local charity.
.Exhibitors of commercial floral arrangements will be assessed $10 per niche, payable to T.O.S. at the show.
