Horse Bowl tests each youth’s 25 knowledge in horse breeds, anatomy, equipment, and equine 26 management; and 27 28 Whereas, the contest participants for the South Carolina 4H Horse 29 Program Horse Bowl included Kristy Waldrep of Charleston, 30 Hailey Mundell of Prosperity, Katherine Ellig of Columbia, 31 Hannah Steele of Chester, and Aubrey Miller of Troy; and 32 33 Whereas, Kristy Waldrep was named the individual contest reserve 34 champion, and Hailey Mundell placed fourth in the high individual 35 category; and 36 37 Whereas, two other 4H participants, Hannah McKinney of 38 Charleston and Ashtyn Kinney of Greenwood, comprised the 39 state’s public speaking team, with Hannah winning eighth high 40 individual in the Public Speaking Contest; and 41

[5060] 2 1 Whereas, in this demanding field, Dr. Kristine Vernon and the 2 skilled advisory staff capitalized on their personal Horse Bowl 3 training to build a championship team and teach these participants 4 lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life; and 5 6 Whereas, the South Carolina 4H Youth Development Program, 7 part of the 4H community across America, uses the involvement of 8 caring adults, a learnbydoing approach, and knowledge and 9 resources of Clemson University and the landgrant university 10 system to teach leadership, life skills, and citizenship that can 11 empower youth to become productive, contributing members of 12 society; and 13 14 Whereas, the national 4H Horse Program has more than 260,000 15 participants, the largest of 4H’s animalrelated programs; and 16 17 Whereas, South Carolina is currently home to eightyfive thousand 18 horses, and the beneficial economic impact of the horse industry in 19 the State is approximately $478 million, including equine 20 expenses, equine sales, and other equine income; and 21 22 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 23 Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the public 24 speaking and individual demonstration team members of the South 25 Carolina 4H Horse Bowl have brought to our great State and look 26 to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. 27 Now, therefore, 28 29 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 30 31 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 32 by this resolution, recognize and honor the South Carolina 4H 33 Horse Program Horse Bowl team, advisors, and 4H officials for an 34 outstanding performance and congratulate them for winning the 35 2015 National Championship title. 36 37 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 38 the 4H Horse Program. 39 XX 40
