R. BOYD ON 15 THEIR UNDEFEATED 15-0 SEASON. 16 17 Whereas, the Lamar High School “Silver Foxes” of Darlington 18 County capped an undefeated 2004 football season with a 26-0 19 victory over the Calhoun Falls High School “Blue Flashes” of 20 Abbeville County in the Class A championship game; and 21 22 Whereas, the Lamar defense, which smothered opponents all 23 season-long, stayed true to form in the championship; and 24 25 Whereas, the offense played mistake-free, moved the ball 26 effectively, and took advantage of great field position; and 27 28 Whereas, the Lamar defense held Calhoun Falls scoreless, 29 allowing only one-hundred and thirty yards offense while forcing 30 four turnovers. Meanwhile, the offense piled up almost 31 two-hundred yards behind a strong running game combined with 32 enough passing to keep the Blue Flashes honest; and 33 34 Whereas, the Silver Foxes opened the scoring on their second 35 possession. A stout defensive stand combined with an eleven-yard 36 punt return gave Lamar’s offense a short field beginning its drive 37 on the Calhoun Falls thirty-three yard line. On fourth and five 38 quarterback Markee Hamlin hit Desmond Benjamin with a screen 39 pass and he raced down the sideline for a twenty-eight yard score; 40 and 41

1 [3476] 1 1 Whereas, the Lamar Special teams would strike just before 2 halftime as Latron Jackson fielded a Calhoun Falls punt and went 3 untouched for forty-eight yards, scoring the game’s second 4 touchdown; and 5 6 Whereas, Calhoun Falls threatened midway through the fourth 7 quarter with Lamar up 20-0. The Blue Flashes faced first and goal 8 at the two-yard line. The Lamar defense, however, was well 9 prepared for the challenge, and with two consecutive sacks 10 preserved the shut-out; and 11 12 Whereas, after the goal line stand, Desmond Benjamin scored on a 13 seventy-five yard touchdown run, his third of the day. Benjamin 14 garnered Most Valuable Player honors rushing for one-hundred 15 twenty-six yards on thirteen carries; and 16 17 Whereas, this terrific finish for the 2004 team, an undefeated 18 season along with Lamar’s third consecutive state title, truly 19 signifies that Lamar is currently the dominant power in Class A 20 Football. Now, therefore, 21 22 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 23 24 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives 25 do hereby congratulate the Lamar High School “Silver Foxes” of 26 Darlington County on their third consecutive Class A title, and 27 honor the players and Coach J. R. Boyd on their undefeated 15-0 28 season. 29 30 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 31 Head Football Coach J. R.
