DWYNELLE PRITCHARD BENNETT 12 OF ST. GEORGE FOR HER WORK DURING THE PAST 13 EIGHTEEN YEARS ON BEHALF OF THE WORLD GRITS 14 FESTIVAL HELD ANNUALLY IN ST. GEORGE AS HER 15 ASSOCIATION WITH THE FESTIVAL COMES TO A CLOSE. 16 17 Whereas, Dwynelle Pritchard Bennett was born September 5, 18 1930, in Warwick, Georgia. She was one of six children born to 19 James Albert and Ella Elizabeth Pritchard. In 1948, she met and 20 married Everett Wilson Bennett; and 21 22 Whereas, Mrs. Nell and Everett have three children, Elizabeth 23 Bennett Clarkson, Linda Bennett Eadon, and Everett Wilson 24 Bennett, Jr. The Bennetts moved to St. George in 1955 where they 25 owned and operated Bennett’s Appliance Company in St. George 26 for forty-two years; and 27 28 Whereas, the St. George area and local residents have been blessed 29 to have Mrs. Nell as a member of their community. She is the only 30 woman ever named “Sportsman of the Year” by the local Jaycees. 31 She also is a member of Memorial Baptist Church, having sung in 32 the choir, served as Foreign Mission Study co-chairman, and as 33 President of the Appleby’s Women’s Missionary Union; and 34 35 Whereas, Mrs. Nell’s talents and abilities have won her critical 36 acclaim for her numerous theatrical roles in the Lourie Theatre in 37 St. George. She is beloved by all, especially local children, having 38 been a favorite storyteller at area schools and at the county library; 39 and 40

1 [5350] 1 1 Whereas, for the past eighteen years, Mrs. Nell has worked 2 tirelessly on behalf of the World Grits Festival held annually in St. 3 George; and 4 5 Whereas, her public relations skills have helped put the World 6 Grits Festival before national and international audiences. Festival 7 articles and pictures have been published in the Smithsonian 8 Magazine, Delta Sky Magazine, USA Today, Southern Living, and 9 National Geographic; and 10 11 Whereas, the festival has grown tremendously under her watch, 12 this year attracting forty-five thousand people from twenty-seven 13 states and four foreign countries; and 14 15 Whereas, Mrs. Nell embodies the goals of the World Grits 16 Festival, stimulating pride in the town of St. George and 17 surrounding communities and providing wholesome recreation and 18 entertainment for the family; and 19 20 Whereas, at the end of the seventeenth annual World Grits 21 Festival, Mrs. Nell resigned her position. Her infectious smile, 22 Southern charm, outgoing personality, and willingness to give of 23 herself and her time have greatly enriched the lives of those who 24 know her and who have been associated with the festival; and 25 26 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this 27 resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly 28 lovely lady for her tremendous efforts on behalf of the World Grits 29 Festival as her tenure with the festival comes to a close. Now, 30 therefore, 31 32 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 33 34 That the members of House of Representatives commend Mrs. 35 Dwynelle Pritchard Bennett of St. George for her work during the 36 past eighteen years on behalf of the World Grits Festival held 37 annually in St. George as her association with the festival comes to 38 a close. 39 40 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 41 Mrs. Dwynelle Pritchard Bennett. 42 ----XX----
